Last night, at the last minute, I had the chance to jump into my Nike Aurrrs and head downtown to see Common and Q-Tip. And oh my damn, it was a nice show.
Both brothers were undeniably fine, wore cute hats and turned it out, but lawd strike me down, I think I enjoyed Q-Tip a little bit more. Common was all about his message and Q-Tip had jokes, and maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for the serious vibe. If given the choice, you know I’m always gonna go for the jokes, son!
But on the real real real real real, I would still french either one, any day. I ain’t gonna lie.

Car Horn
12″, 1999
I am from Detroit, which means I will bust any jammie about a car. Check that ‘84 Chevy horn sound: this one is nicer than cream sauce on rice.

Finding Forever, 2007
This man knows how to write a pretty song. And I guess Ye Ye knows how to produce – at least he didn’t try to talk up in there.

Work It Out
The Renaissance, 2007
I guess Q-Tip is releasing an album later this year? This single is supposed to be on it, and he’s playing it on this tour. It’s no “Check the Rhime” – you need Phife Dawg for that kind of hotness – but it’s not bad. Throw Tip a bone here – he’s been out of the game for a while.

When Q-Tip got to Busta Rhymes’ verse last night, he served up a little Busta, waving his arms around and bugging his eyes. He so crazy.

Think there’s any video of Q buggin’ out? I’d love to see him do that insane Busta verse.
